Script Club is like a book club for theatre lovers! We will read play scripts instead of novels. Some plays are ones we may consider for future seasons, while others have elements limiting the ability to produce them locally.
Each play follows its own schedule of virtual meetings.
Is there a play you would like for us to read? Let us know at email@example.com.
Facilitated by Kerri Crosby
Take a trip to 1940s Yonkers, New York where two brothers are taken in by their grandmother as their father travels the country to earn the money to pay back a loan shark. During their time above Kurntiz Kandy Store they get to know childlike Aunt Bella, gangster Uncle Louie, Aunt Gert with the unusual speech impediment, and their tough as nails grandma. Neil Simon is the father of the American “dramedy” and this Tony Award winner is Simon at his best; funny, honest, and poignant. Over the course of two Zoom meetings, we will discuss the playwright, themes and characters, and how Simon deftly handles the joy and sadness in every family’s story.
If you are able to read the entire play before the first meeting, it will allow for a more fleshed out discussion.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Zoom meeting.
